VisitsTracker vs Hubstaff

Hubstaff is a large, mature time tracking product with payroll, invoicing, productivity monitoring and a GPS module that can clock teams in and out of job sites automatically. Its centre of gravity is workforce time; ours is the visit.

Competitor claims are taken from their own published documentation, dated below.

The short version

Which of us you should buy.

Straight answer

If you need one tool to track time across desk staff and field staff, run payroll off it and see productivity metrics, Hubstaff is more product than we are and costs $10 a seat. If everybody you are tracking is in the field and the argument is about what happened at a customer site, ours is built for that and leaves office seats free.

Where they win

Where Hubstaff is the better choice.

Leading with this because a comparison that finds no merit in the alternative is marketing, and gets read that way.

Far broader product

Payroll, invoicing, timesheets, project budgets, productivity monitoring and integrations with a long list of tools. We are none of those things.

Desk and field on one system

Screenshots, activity rates and app or URL tracking for people at desks, alongside field tracking. If your workforce is mixed, that is a real advantage.

Maturity and scale

Their site cites 140,000 global users. We are new, and an established product with that many customers has been shaken out in ways we have not.

Geofenced job sites are already there

Hubstaff publishes GPS time tracking with job sites that clock teams in and out automatically, so automatic attendance is not a difference between us.

01 · What is being measured

Hours worked, or visits made

Hubstaff measures time and attributes it to projects and people. We measure presence at places and turn it into visits. Both produce hours; only one produces a record a customer will read.

  • Their unit is the timesheet entry. Ours is the visit, with a start, an end and everything captured inside it.
  • Automatic clock-in at a geofenced job site is something they publish too, so that is not the difference.
  • The difference is what you can do with the result afterwards.

The totals agree. What you can hand somebody afterwards does not.

02 · Who you pay for

Only the people in the field are billable

Hubstaff publishes $10 per seat per month on the Team plan. Every manager, coordinator and admin who needs to look at the console is a seat.

  • Ours is $4 per tracked seat plus a $19 workspace. Office staff, auditors and clients cost nothing.
  • A team of ten in vans and four in the office is $59 a month with us.

03 · What we deliberately do not do

No screenshots, no activity score

Hubstaff's productivity features are a genuine reason to buy it for desk teams. On a field team they are usually the reason a rollout stalls.

  • We do not capture screens, keystrokes, applications or websites, and there is no setting that turns it on.
  • Collection runs only inside the working hours you set, and workers can read their own record.
  • That is not a moral position, it is what makes a field workforce accept the thing.

Questions people ask.

Does Hubstaff do GPS and geofencing?

Yes. Their site publishes GPS time tracking with job sites that clock teams in and out automatically, so automatic attendance is not a point of difference. What differs is what the resulting record is for.

Is Hubstaff cheaper?

Per seat, no: $10 against $4 for a tracked seat. But they include payroll, invoicing and desk-team monitoring, and if you need those the comparison is not really about the seat price.

Do you take screenshots?

No, and there is no setting for it. If you want screen monitoring, Hubstaff is the correct purchase and we are not competing for it.

Can Hubstaff produce customer-facing proof of a visit?

Nothing equivalent is published. That is the main thing we would run a week in parallel to test if it matters to you.

We have office staff and field staff. Which is cheaper?

Ours, usually, because office staff are not billable. Fourteen people with ten in the field is $59 a month here against $140 on their published Team price.

Run both for a week.

Put each on one phone, work a normal week, and compare what comes out. That tells you more than either of our websites.
