VisitsTracker vs ServiceM8

ServiceM8 runs the whole job for a trade business: quote, schedule, job card, invoice, payment. It charges by the number of jobs a month and lets you have unlimited users, which is an unusually good deal for a small team doing a modest number of valuable jobs.

Competitor claims are taken from their own published documentation, dated below.

The short version

Which of us you should buy.

Straight answer

If you are a trade business and the job is the unit you bill, ServiceM8 is excellent and its unlimited-users pricing is genuinely generous. If your work is many small visits rather than a few billable jobs, pricing by the job works against you, and we charge by the person instead.

Where they win

Where ServiceM8 is the better choice.

Leading with this because a comparison that finds no merit in the alternative is marketing, and gets read that way.

It runs the whole job

Quotes, job cards, forms and certificates, invoices, payments and asset management. We do none of that and are not trying to.

Unlimited users on every paid plan

Their published plans give unlimited users from the Starter tier upward. For a growing trade business that is a real advantage over per-seat pricing.

A free tier that is actually usable

£0 a month for one user and thirty jobs. Very few products in this space give you a working free plan rather than a trial.

Built for trades, in detail

Forms and certificates, supplier invoice importing, deposits and progress invoicing are the things a trade business actually needs and we have none of them.

01 · What you are charged for

Jobs, or people

ServiceM8 counts jobs. We count the people being tracked. Which is cheaper depends entirely on whether your work is a few valuable jobs or a great many small visits.

  • Their published ladder: 50 jobs at £25, 150 at £59, 500 at £119, 1,500+ at £269 a month.
  • A trade business doing 40 quoted jobs a month is very well served by that.
  • A cleaning round, a patrol route or a care round is hundreds of visits, and the ladder climbs.
Two businesses, one monthwhich pricing suits
Plumber, 40 jobs, 3 staffunlimited userstheirs
Cleaning, 7 sites a night~210 visitsladder climbs
Guarding, 6 sites a night~180 visitsladder climbs
Ours, any of the aboveper tracked personflat

This assumes you would record each visit as a job. If your recurring work is one job covering many attendances, their arithmetic is kinder than this and you should check it against your own numbers.

02 · What each one produces

An invoice, or an argument that holds

ServiceM8 exists to get a job quoted, done and paid. We exist to answer what happened at a place, later, when somebody disputes it.

  • We do not quote, invoice or take payment, and adding it is not on the roadmap.
  • What we add is duration on site, a trust verdict on the readings, and a per-day seal.
  • Teams that need both usually keep their job system and put us underneath it.

03 · If you are a trade business

Buy theirs, and read this bit anyway

For most trades, job management is the bigger problem and ServiceM8 solves it well. The place we are worth adding is where attendance itself is contested.

  • Recurring maintenance rounds, where the argument is whether the visit happened at all.
  • Multi-site contracts where the client wants evidence per site, monthly, without you assembling it.
  • Subcontracted work where you are proving attendance to somebody who was not there.

Straight answers

Questions people ask.

Does VisitsTracker do quotes and invoices?

No. If you need to quote, schedule, invoice and take payment, ServiceM8 does all of it and we do none of it.

Is ServiceM8 cheaper?

For a small trade business doing a modest number of valuable jobs, very likely, and their unlimited-users pricing is generous. For visit-heavy work like cleaning rounds or patrols, the job ladder climbs and per-person pricing usually wins.

Can we run both?

Yes, and for multi-site maintenance contracts that is a sensible setup: their system for the commercial side, ours for proving attendance.

Do they have a free plan?

Yes. Their published free tier is one user and thirty jobs a month, which is a real free plan rather than a trial.

Run both for a week.

Put each on one phone, work a normal week, and compare what comes out. That tells you more than either of our websites.
